Zowietek camera control protocols, including VISCA over IP, VISCA serial, PELCO D/P, and ONVIF, are professional camera control protocols. VISCA over IP (Video System Control Architecture over Internet Protocol) is a protocol used for controlling and communicating with professional video cameras over an IP network. VISCA was originally developed by Sony for controlling camera functions such as pan, tilt, zoom, focus, and exposure. VISCA over IP extends this capability by enabling the same control commands to be transmitted over an IP network, allowing for remote control of cameras over long distances. This protocol is commonly used in applications such as video conferencing, live streaming, surveillance systems, and remote broadcasting.

VISCA serial refers to the original implementation of the VISCA protocol, which uses serial communication interfaces such as RS-232 or RS-422 to control video cameras. VISCA serial enables direct, point-to-point communication between a controller device (such as a joystick controller or computer) and the camera, allowing for precise control of camera functions. While VISCA serial provides reliable and low-latency communication, it requires physical connections between devices, limiting the distance over which control commands can be transmitted.

PELCO D/P are two protocols commonly used in the surveillance industry for controlling PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) cameras. PELCO-D is a proprietary protocol developed by Pelco (now part of Schneider Electric), while PELCO-P is an extension of PELCO-D with additional functionalities. These protocols define communication standards for controlling the movement and parameters of PTZ cameras, including commands for panning, tilting, zooming, focusing, and other camera functions. PELCO protocols typically operate over serial communication interfaces such as RS-485 and RS-232, allowing for direct communication between control devices (such as joysticks, DVRs, or software applications) and PTZ cameras.

ONVIF (Open Network Video Interface Forum) is an open industry forum that develops standards for IP-based security products, with a focus on video surveillance equipment. ONVIF standards facilitate interoperability between different manufacturers’ devices, allowing cameras, video management systems (VMS), and other surveillance equipment to work together seamlessly. The ONVIF specification defines protocols for communication between IP-based security devices, including commands for video streaming, PTZ control, device discovery, and event handling. By adhering to ONVIF standards, manufacturers ensure that their products are compatible with a wide range of third-party devices and software, promoting flexibility and ease of integration in surveillance systems.
